Mary Ellen doesn’t do boredom well. She walks. Fills out crosswords. Plays the slots. Partners with her husband to bake more than 300 pies during Thanksgiving week. The most objectionable word in the LaRose household? Downtime.
Which makes her the perfect person to keep AHA humming day after day. Nothing to do? No such thing, Mary Ellen says, before coming up with a dozen new ways to make our office work just a little better. She honed her get-things-done attitude over a 40-year career as a teacher and principal at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Wappingers Falls, New York. There, she had to keep busy just to keep up.
Mary Ellen’s not worried about things slowing down anytime soon. Her four sons and a granddaughter live here too—the main reason she and her husband trekked west in 2015. She also loves to stay busy defying expectations. Like freely admitting that this former St. Mary’s principal is a huge fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Modest Mouse.
